STARTING WITH ADVANCED MATERIALS R&D
One connected workflow.
Plan
Project objectives and milestones are defined.
Evaluate
Evidence is reviewed against the intended objectives.
Execute
Experimental activities are performed and recorded.
Decide
Relevant information reaches the management layer.
Connect
Activities, samples, analyses and results are related.
Move forward
The project can continue, repeat, revise or redirect activities based on available evidence.
Starting with advanced materials R&D.
The current MVP explores workflows commonly found in advanced materials research, where synthesis, characterization and application can involve different researchers, techniques, timelines and decision points.
The same principle can potentially be adapted to other experimental R&D environments where scientific evidence needs to remain connected to project objectives and management decisions.
Track what was produced and how
Track samples, analyses and turnaround time
Link results to project goals
From functional MVP to validated solution.
LoopLIMS is currently a functional MVP developed to test the concept and its core workflows.
The next stage is not simply adding features. It is validating whether connecting experimental execution with project management can improve visibility, decision-making and the efficiency of R&D project execution.

From functional MVP to validated solution.
The next stage is not simply adding features. It is validating whether connecting experimental execution with project management can improve visibility, decision-making and the efficiency of R&D project execution.
350+ application test possibilities are already catalogued in the current MVP for energy and environmental research.
The MVP also considers sustainability criteria, including eco-friendly approaches and material end-of-life, aligned with the principles of the EU Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC.
What could change?
Better visibility
Understand what is happening across experimental activities without relying only on periodic meetings or manual consolidation.
Faster decisions
Identify relevant information and gaps earlier, supporting decisions while the project is still being executed.
More from experimental work
Preserve the connection between activities, evidence and project objectives, helping scientific work become more traceable and actionable.
LoopLIMS was initiated by Vanessa Lima, PhD in Environmental Engineering from FEUP, with around 15 years of experience in applied research, experimental laboratory work, technology development and R&D project management.
The project emerged from the intersection between these experiences and a practical question: how can the information generated during experimental work become more useful for managing the projects that depend on it?
